Alexander Sims touches new heights

Following a strong 2011 season, in which he scored a win and four podium finishes in the GP3 Series, plus an F3 win at Silverstone, Britain’s Alexander Sims was recently contracted to the prestigious McLaren Young Driver programme. We talk to him about that – and about his recent ascent of Mt Kilimanjaro, a climb that enabled him to raise £8,000 for the Henry Surtees Foundation.

Mitch Evans on his recent NZ wins

Mitch Evans sprung to prominence with a debut GP3 win at the Spanish GP in 2011 and thus heads into 2012 as a major GP3 front-runner. Supported by Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber, and contracted to the MW Arden GP3 team, Mitch nonetheless returned to his native New Zealand in January and early February to contest the last two rounds of the ultra-competitive Toyota NZ Race Series. He won first time out, at Hampton Downs, and was leading the New Zealand Grand Prix, at Manfield, when an electrical problem robbed him of victory only eight laps from the finish.

Nick Cassidy, the very talented 17-year-old New Zealander, clinched the 2012 Toyota NZ Race Series with a further win at Hampton Downs and then a strong podium finish at Manfield. The final goal? The New Zealand Grand Prix, also at Manfield. Nick won that, too – and now talks to us about his amazing season and his plans for the rest of 2012

Nick Cassidy retains lead

Nick Cassidy, the very talented 17-year-old New Zealander, scored a win in round three of the New Zealand Racing Series at Taupo, New Zealand, on Jan 29, 2012 – and therefore takes his points lead into round 4 at Hampton Downs next weekend. Here, in conversation with The Flying Lap’s Peter Windsor, Nick talks about his relatively tough weekend in Taupo, the ins and outs of the Toyota car set-up – and the return of Mitch Evans to the series.

Josh Hill – currently P4 in NZ Toyota Racing Series

Josh Hill, talented grandson of Graham and son of Damon, is currently in New Zealand, driving for ETEC Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series – an ultra-competitive, five-circuit, 15-race championship for 215bhp single-seaters. Josh won the opening race, at Teretonga, on the South Island, and talks to us on January 24, 2012, just prior to the third round, at Taupo, where the drivers will be competing for the Denny Hulme Trophy.

Nick Cassidy – NZ Toyota Series points leader

17-year-old New Zealander, Nick Cassidy, is leading the ultra-competitive NZ Toyota Racing Series after the first two rounds at Teretonga and Timaru. Another very talented Kiwi destined for stardom, Nick spoke to us from his home in Auckland on Jan 25, 2012, prior to round three of the series in Taupo this weekend.
